On 27 February 2023, the Republic of Azerbaijan served on the Republic of Armenia a Notice of Arbitration pursuant to Article 27 of the Energy Charter Treaty and the Arbitration Rules of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, 1976. The Permanent Court of Arbitration acts as Registry in this arbitration.  

By Notice of Arbitration dated 18 January 2023, the Republic of Azerbaijan commenced arbitral proceedings against the Republic of Armenia pursuant to Article 18(2) of the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats of 19 September 1979 (“Bern Convention”).  The Permanent Court of Arbitration acts as Registry in this arbitration.

On 1 April 2019, Ukraine served on the Russian Federation a Notification and Statement of Claim under Annex VII to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) referring to a dispute concerning the detention of Ukrainian naval vessels and servicemen. The Permanent Court of Arbitration acts as Registry in this arbitration.

In a notice to initiate arbitration dated 20 September 2018, the State of Qatar invoked Article 32 of the Constitution of the Universal Postal Union, which provides that “[i]n the event of a dispute between two or more member countries concerning the interpretation of the Acts of the Union or the responsibility imposed on a member country by the application of those Acts, the question at issue shall be settled by arbitration”. The constitution of the Tribunal was completed on 29 May 2020. Pursuant to Article 153 of the General Regulations of the Universal Postal Union, the arbitration proceedings are confidential.

On 16 September 2016, Ukraine served on the Russian Federation a Notification and Statement of Claim under Annex VII to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) referring to a dispute concerning coastal state rights in the Black Sea, Sea of Azov, and Kerch Strait. The Permanent Court of Arbitration acts as Registry in this arbitration.

On 19 August 2016, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan instituted arbitral proceedings against the Republic of India under Paragraph 2(b) of Annexure G to the Indus Waters Treaty 1960. A Court of Arbitration was constituted pursuant to Annexure G. The Permanent Court of Arbitration acts as Secretariat to the Court of Arbitration pursuant to Paragraph 15(a) of Annexure G.

The PCA serves as registry and provides administrative support in this arbitration, which is being conducted under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules 1976.

By Notice of Arbitration dated 17 October 2023, arbitral proceedings were commenced by OJSC “Belaruskali” against the Republic of Lithuania pursuant to Article 8 of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Republic of Lithuania on the Promotion and Protection of Investments dated 5 March 1999. The case concerns a dispute in the area of transportation, storage and transshipment of chemical products in the territory of the Republic of Lithuania.
